Eliminate These Phrases From Your Vocabulary

I am the queen of procrastination. I can remember being in elementary school and being up enduring my mother’s yelling because I had waited until the last minute to make some poster. Or type a one page book report. Or waiting until 10 mins before my mother came home to even consider cleaning my room, which at that point was mainly shoving everything under my bed. I know procrastination life well. Not too long ago, I realized all my procrastination started with the words “I need to…” or “I have to…” or “I need to do better about…” Quit saying those things. They are NOT helpful. They are NOT actionable. Here’s a thought. JUST DO IT. If you are in a down moment when you realize you “Need” to do something, you could just take a moment and do it. If you’re busy, add it to you daily to do […]

3 Reminders of Your Dopeness

Look. This entrepreneurial journey¬†is hard. I get it. I was there, I’m still there sometimes. But you are dope *insert flames emoji* Here’s why: Law school is HARD. The Bar Exam is CRUEL. You survived. You graduated. You passed. A lot of people didn’t. That already puts you in an elite group. You had the courage to say “fuck it, I’m unhappy” and MOVE ON. I can’t count the number of attorneys I meet that say they hate the practice of law, but have 20 years in the game or can’t think of anything they would rather do, so there they sit. Who wants to be unhappy for the rest of their lives?!?! I don’t care if you have 5 years or 50 years left on this earth, its too long to be unhappy. You’re multi-gifted. I know this can cause some confusion and feel more like a curse than […]

The Most Underused Research Tool

YOUR EARS!!! Your ears are the single most underutilized research tool and THEY. ARE. FREE. Listen when people talk!!! Guess what? People LOVE to complain. They complain about absolutely everything. In those complaints lie some of the best business ideas. I work in an environment with literally hundreds of unhappy attorneys. I used to, and still do to an extent, loathe the amount of whining and daydreaming I heard. I used to just pump music through my earbuds at ridiculous levels to drown out the sound of people wallowing in their underacheivement. Then I started listening. I realized that many of the people that annoyed me the most had dreams and just couldn’t figure out how to reach them. I started hosting “get your shit together” planning & accountability sessions and realized I had a real thing. I became an office resource for people who were starting business or law […]

PULL THE TRIGGER: 3 Signs You’re Ready to Launch

Launching a new business or project can be so scary. You may find yourself cycling between excitement and anxiety. Eventually, you just have to pull the trigger and get started.¬†Here are 3 signs you’re ready to launch: You’ve made a decision. You’ve made a business plan. You’ve done your research. You’ve already decided what, now is the when. Stop making excuses and finding ways to procrastinate (does your place “suddenly” need a deep cleaning?!?!). You have to start eventually, why not do so today. You’re waiting for other parts of the plan to come together. I know you have a massive plan. If you’re anything like me, your big picture looks more like a spider web than a straight line. But you can’t make progress in the bigger goal until you get started. You’re afraid or anxious. This is kind of a big deal. You’re stepping outside of your comfort […]
