3 Home Remedies For Colds

I absolutely hate colds. I mean who doesn’t, but I get really miserable. Since I changed my diet a number of years ago, I found that I don’t get sick as often. Still, I can’t completely escape the occasional ailment. I also hate medication. My body is very sensitive, so I try to avoid taking anything that may trigger some random reaction. Instead, I opt for home remedies where possible. 1. Turmeric Tea Turmeric is bae. I first discovered turmeric as an anti-inflammatory after an injury. I was stretching after a workout and immediately felt heat running through my leg. Then, I developed a literal pain in the ass. The doctor told me I could have some sciatica and he could treat them through anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants. NATURALLY I came home and looked for home remedies. Everything I read pointed to turmeric. I whipped up golden milk (I’ll share this […]

Start Now, Fix It Later: 7 Steps of Iteration

No one gets it 100% right the first time. Hell, even 50% right the first time would be impressive. There is power in iteration. The key is to start SOMETHING and improve it along the way. The iPhone 1  was innovative at its release 10 years ago. Today? It would be the equivalent of a flip phone, maybe even a brick phone. 1. Start a thing. You have to get started. I’ve often heard “ if you wait until everything is perfect to start, you’ve waited too long.” It’s true. There are things you can only learn by doing and seeing how your business functions in the real world. I started a kids & maternity consignment business with a friend in 2013 and it failed miserably. The website was complete trash and we did no marketing. I realized the mantra “if you build it, they will come” was complete garbage. But, with […]

Pivoting in 5 Easy Steps

We’ve all had that crisis. A birthday rolls around, or the end of the year sneaks up, or you hit a snag in your business or career. Then ALL OF A SUDDEN, you starting thinking “I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE HELL I’M DOING. “ When you pick yourself off the ground, you are tempted to start completely over. IT’S ALL TRASH!!! THROW IT AWAY!!! Which spirals you even more. I’ve been there more times than I can count. I’ve NEVER been productive in hysteria. The only way I can see my way through is with pivoting. Pivoting is nothing more than shifting directions. I learned this lesson vividly in my last job hunt.   1. Find a starting point. You can’t pivot from nothing. It depends upon having a starting point. Look around at what you already have. When I was looking for a job, I wanted to switch into […]

Balance Your Day In 3 Simple Steps

We all have a lot going on in our lives. If you’re here, you’re probably working a ton with some combination of a 9-5 and entrepreneurship. You don’t need anyone telling you to work more. You’re GOOD on that. For you (and me) it soooooo important to have wellness practices in place to balance out the work and keep your energy up. I live by the Chew-Chuckle-Chill mantra to sanity. 1. Chew So many of us are not flourishing because we aren’t eating the right things. Fast food, while convenient, is not giving you the energy to keep going. Make time in your day to eat real, balanced meals and drink water. Clearly, eating has to be done in real time, but prepping for meals once or twice a week can set you up for success. I’m a 5-6 “meal” a day girl. My daily food intake is usually includes: • […]

3 Reasons You Should Absolutely Change Your Mind

Few decisions are ACTUALLY permanent. Instead of thinking of decisions as the end, we should consider them the beginning of a learning experience. People throw around clichés like “Fail Fast, fail often,” which really means be decisive and willing to move on. Changing your mind is critical and here’s why:   1. You know more now. Decision-making is about taking action based on the information that you know at the time. If you’re doing life right, you’ll learn more information as you go along, some of which may negate your original information set and that’s fine. Just change your mind. I decided somewhere around 10 that I wanted to be a lawyer. I thought, “reading, writing, and debating, sounds perfect.” Family, friends, and even strangers affirmed that decision pretty early – people’s faces light up when they hear little black girls dream about being doctors and lawyers. Cool. After I […]

5 Keys to Hustling Whole

When I returned to the entrepreneurial good fight after my first bout of serious anxiety, I found I was unable to grind while everyone else slept – I needed sleep. That realization made me think about hustling a little differently. These 5 things were instrumental to my productivity and mental health while grinding.   SLEEP  GO TO FUCKING SLEEP, OK? Go to sleep. To hell with all the “hustle” mantras, all the “I’ll sleep when I’m deads.” The body restores itself during sleep. If you never go to sleep, how will you have any energy to keep grinding? When I was in law school, I read that Diddy only sleeps about four hours a day. Of course, I tried it. I studied until 2AM and woke up at 6AM to prep for class and study more. I won’t lie – for about a couple days I was pretty productive. But […]

5 Favorite Business Podcasts

For the first time in a long time, I enjoy my full time job. However, during the day I still have to contend with some of the challenges of a 9-to-5 like loud coworkers and lack of privacy, thanks to my open workspace. I also have quite a long commute. To get through the distractions, I LOVE listening to podcasts. I listen to all types of podcasts from business to entertainment. I give most any popular podcast a couple listens, just out of curiosity. So in the last year, I developed this arsenal of podcasts to learn vital information for my business. Here are some of favorites:   SIDE HUSTLE PRO I absolutely adore this podcast. As side hustlers we glorify full-time entrepreneurship. However, it is difficult to be as productive as a full-time entrepreneur in half, or less than half, the time. In a New Year’s resolution style effort […]
